Why We Charge For Consultations
We charge for initial consultations because we are business owners first.
For us, this policy is smart + proactive business.
WE VALUE YOUR TIME AND OURS
We charge for consultations because we value your time and ours. We have found that when we don’t charge for consultations, people don’t fully commit to take the time to get a handle on their business legal. It’s too easy to cancel when there’s nothing to lose. When we charge for consultations, it holds us both accountable. You to show up. And us to prepare to help.
LEGAL ADVICE
We charge for initial consultations because we want to be able to provide you with the legal advice you’re looking for. Free consults are informational only. That means, we can’t (and won’t) give you legal advice during a free consult. Information is great and all, but let’s take trademarks as an example. A critical part of any initial trademark consultation is determining, from the outset, if there are any major red flags that would make trademarking your brand difficult. That is legal advice. When we give legal advice, we are taking a risk. We are taking the risk that you will rely on our advice. If we are taking on that risk (i.e., liability), we cannot do it for free.
CONFLICTS
We charge for initial consultations because what you share with us during our call might prevent us from taking on other work/clients. In other words, speaking with you might mean lost income for us in the future. We can use trademarks as an example again. When you share with us the word or service mark, slogan, etc. that you want to trademark, we are then prevented from working with someone else that may have a similar trademark and operate in a similar industry as you. Lawyers call this a “conflict,” and we take conflicts seriously.
*When you hire us within 3 days of our initial consultation, we credit the full $150 consultation fee toward any legal service you purchase.
